Caltucky is a progressive bluegrass band from Northern California blending tradition, improvisation, and grit. Black Pine Revival opens.

Born in the foothills of Northern California, Caltucky is a progressive bluegrass band forging a sound as wild and genuine as the landscapes they come from. Merging the technical precision of traditional string music with the improvisational freedom of jam and Americana, Caltucky brings a modern spark to mountain-born roots.

The quartet — Marty Varner (guitar/mandolin, vocals), Kyle Kunert (banjo, vocals), Elijah McCullough (fiddle), and Tyler Miles (bass) — has become a rising force on the West Coast circuit, known for their kinetic live shows and boundary-stretching arrangements. Their sets weave blistering instrumentals, harmony-rich originals, and reimagined covers that shift from foot-stomping breakdowns to trancey groove explorations without ever losing the bluegrass heartbeat.

Recognized as a Showcase Artist by the California Bluegrass Association, Caltucky has performed at festivals including Strawberry Music Festival, WinterWonderGrass, Hog Farm Hideaway, Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival, and Huck Finn Jubilee, sharing stages with scene pillars like Leftover Salmon, The String Cheese Incident, and AJ Lee & Blue Summit.

Jerry & Dawg Revisited is a re-creation of the sound and spirit of Garcia Grisman(1990-1994) with original members Joe Craven and Jim Kerwin. Stu Allen on guitar and Andrew Collins round out the band.

In 1964, Jerry Garcia and David Grisman met in the parking lot of a bluegrass festival at Sunset Park in West Grove, Pennsylvania. That serendipitous meeting started a relationship that five years later found them as members of an all-star Bluegrass band, Old & In The Way. The group released a legendary live album in 1973 that introduced Bluegrass to a much broader audience. It was during that stint together that Garcia nicknamed Grisman “Dawg,” and sometime thereafter Grisman decided to name the style of music that he played “Dawg Music."

Their individual careers took Garcia and Grisman down separate paths, but years later, they bumped into each other at a party in 1990 that rekindled their friendship with some casual get-togethers to play a variety of American roots music that they both loved. Grisman was launching his new record label Acoustic Disc, and Garcia suggested they record an album together to celebrate the new label and enjoy making all-acoustic music again. They decided to add a rhythm section of David Grisman Quintet members; percussionist / fiddler / rhythm mandolinist Joe Craven, and upright bassist Jim Kerwin. In August of 1991, Grisman released what was to be the first of a series of Acoustic Disc recordings under the name “Garcia Grisman.” That first release was nominated for a Grammy in Best Contemporary Folk Album of that year.

Garcia passed away in 1995, and Grisman rarely tours these days; but the music lives on with the original rhythm section of Joe Craven and Jim Kerwin, and Stu Allen on acoustic guitar and vocals, and either Ronnie McCoury or Andrew Collins on mandolin. Jerry & Dawg Revisited is reintroducing that original sound and songs to new and old.

Tim Flannery is a rare two-sport standout whose life has been shaped by family, baseball, and music—a “holy trinity” he’s never separated. A former Major League infielder and longtime coach, Flannery spent over three decades in professional baseball, including key roles with the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants, where he was part of three World Series championship teams (2010, 2012, 2014).

Alongside the game, Flannery built a prolific music career, releasing more than a dozen albums of heartfelt, roots-driven songs inspired by life on the road, love, and the pull of home. Backed by his band, the Lunatic Fringe, his sound blends country, rock, and bluegrass into a style that’s as honest as his story.

Former Giant pitcher, Jake Peavy, joins the band to sing and play guitar. The comradery with Tim and the band is a joy to see and hear. It will be Jake’s first show in Chico.
